Strong Coupling Dynamics of Branes from M - theory

چکیده

We study some aspects of the strong coupling dynamics of Dirichlet six branes, antisix branes, and orientifold planes by using the equivalence of type IIA string theory and M-theory on S. In particular we show that in the strong coupling limit there exists stable configuration of brane and anti-brane at arbitrary separation. The mass of the open string stretched between the brane and the anti-brane approaches a finite positive value even when the branes coincide. We also derive the anomalous gravitational interaction on the brane and the orientifold plane from M-theory. Qcd Dynamics from M-theory

A large literature has grown up on engineering supersymmetric field theories using D-brane constructions in type IIA string theory (a comprehensive review and list of references is to be found in ref 2). The essential ingredient is that the massless string modes of strings ending on the surfaces of D-branes correspond to gauge fields living on the D-branes’ surfaces, plus superpartners. In addi...

String Dynamics at Strong Coupling

The dynamics of superstring, supergravity and M theories and their compactifications are probed by studying the various perturbation theories that emerge in the strong and weak coupling limits for various directions in coupling constant space. The results support the picture of an underlying non-perturbative theory that, when expanded perturbatively in different coupling constants, gives differ...

Branes and N=1 Duality in String Theory

We propose a construction of dual pairs in four dimensional N=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory using branes in type IIA string theory. Supersymmetric gauge theories invariant under eight or sixteen supercharges (e.g. N=2 and N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories in four dimensions, respectively) have been intensively studied in the last few years. Many of the diverse strong coupling phenomen...

Superconformal D-branes and moduli spaces

The on-going quest for a single theory that describes all the forces of nature has led to the discovery of string theory. This is the only known theory that successfully unifies gravity with the electroweak and strong forces. It postulates that the fundamental building blocks of nature are strings, and that all particles arise as different excitations of strings. This theory is still poorly und...

D 0 Branes on T n and Matrix Theory

The Hamiltonian describing Matrix theory on T n is identified with the Hamiltonian describing the dynamics of D0-branes on T n in an appropriate weak coupling limit for all n up to 5. New subtleties arise in taking this weak coupling limit for n = 6, since the transverse size of the D0 brane system blows up in this limit. This can be attributed to the appearance of extra light states in the the...
